Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

(1956- ) President-elect of Iran. Will be instated as president on August 2, 2005.
Ahmadinejad is generally considered to be very conservative in his views, believing in a strict interpretation of Islam. He is also considered to be honest and reliable, which may have been the decisive part of his character, giving him the victory in the 2005 presidential elections.

Biography
1956: Born in the Semnan province, in the small village of Aradan, as the son of a blacksmith.
1976: Joins the university to study civil engineering.
2003 May 3: Becomes mayor of Teheran.
2005 June 24: Is elected president of Iran in the second round of the popular elections.
June 28:Steps down as mayor, following his victory in the presidential elections.
