Bel


In Akkadian religion, the name used for the Sumerian god Enlil. The Akkadians developed him further, making Bel the god of order and destiny.
The change into "Bel" is not really a process of renaming, as Bel was a neutral term, meaning "the Lord" or "God". This indicated an elevation of him.
Bel is of the same root as for god, Baal of West Semitic religions.
