Darab

Town in southern Iran with 50,000 inhabitants (2003 estimate) at an elevation of 1,200 metres above sea level, in the Zagros Mountains. It lies in the Fars Province.
The region produces fruits, cereals, cotton and tobacco. Nearby are salt mines of great importance to the economy.
Darab lies next to the ruined city Darabjird. Most of its structures are of Sassanian origin.
