Firuzabad

Town in southern Iran with 50,000 inhabitants, lying in the Fars Province.
The original Sassanid town had a circular layout, with a Zoroastrian fire altar in its centre. The ruins in Firuzabad include the palace of Ardashir 1, the oldest example of Sassanid architecture.
Firuzabad is connected by road to Shiraz, 200 km north.
History
Around 208: Allegded founding by King Ardashir 1, and named Gur.
10th century: Renamed to Firuzabad.
