King of Egypt, 4th king of the 3rd Dynasty, ruling 2640-2637 BCE, 4 years.
It is possible that his reign was problematic, as he is listed in the Turin List as "erased." It has also been suggested that Khaba and Huni, his successor, were the same person.
To Khaba is ascribed the so-called layer-pyramid at Zawiyet el-Aryan, a new mortuary area north of Saqqara, where only one more pyramid would be begun, before new burial ground were introduced. His pyramid was set out to become perhaps 45 metres high, but only 20 metres stand. Despite its designation, there is no difference between a layer-pyramid and a step-pyramid. The pyramid was never used, it is quite possible that Khaba was buried at a mastaba north of his pyramid, where alabaster vessels with his name have been found.
Khaba was preceded by Sekhemkhet, and succeeded by Huni.
