Mashriq
Arabic:
'al-mashriq
Another word for the Middle East, coming from the Arabic word for "the land where the sun rises", or "the land in the east".
Mashriq is seldom used in the Middle East, but often used together with the far more common Maghreb, which is the name of the Arab/ Berber countries west of Egypt.
