Murji'is
Arabic:
murjiciyy
Sectarian group in Islam, beginning in the middle of the 7th century, which claimed that human failure or error could be judged only by man, and not by God, in those cases where the common good was in jeopardy.
Moreover they believed the question as to whether or not a person was a believer had to be left to God on the Day of Judgement. They also claimed that human sin should not be punished by expelling the believer from the community.
Many of the group's ideas continued with the Umayyad Caliphs. Because of the unorthodox nature of their beliefs, the Murji'is were said to lack piety.
