King of Ancient Egypt 9th and last ruler of the 5th Dynasty, ruling 2375-2345 BCE, 30 years.
Although his reign was a long one, little is known from it.
Unas' main claim for fame is through his pyramid, where for the first time in Egyptian history, the walls of the burial chamber were decorated with the Pyramid Texts. The inscriptions here are the oldest large religious document. In the texts, Unas is identifies with the gods Re and Osiris, and is called Osiris Unas.
The purpose of the texts was to help the deceased king have success in the afterlife.
Unas' daughter married Teti, who would succeed his as king. Teti is defined as the founder of the 6th Dynasty, but some scholars suggest that Unas can have been the real founder.
He was preceded by Djedkare. The next king of Egypt would become Teti.
