Yemen presently has 10 institutions with the status of university, corresponding to a university density of 1:2,400,000 inhabitants, placing Yemen as no. 20 of 22 in the MENA region.
The Lebanese International University has two Yemeni campuses, in San'a and Aden.
Webometrics ranks none of Yemen's universities among the World Top 6000, reflecting the general weakness of the Yemeni educational system.
All in all, higher education in Yemen is extremely poor, the country is by far the worst performer in the Asian part of MENA. As of 2009, little suggest that improvements are in the making, as is the case with the second worst performer, Syria.
