Yeşil river
Also called: Yeşilirmak

River in Turkey, 418 km long, emptying into the Black Sea, east of Samsun.
The name means simply Green River. In Greek times it was known as Iris.
Its source is northeast of Sivas. Along its course it passes no major city, the town of Amasya is the largest with its 80,000 inhabitants. It is dammed twice, forming first the large Hassan Uğurlu barrage, soon followed by the Suat Uğurlu barrage.
Among its tributaries are Cekerek and Kelkit.
