EDFU:
Birth House

Edfu, Egypt

Edfu, Egypt

The birth house was the centre of focus once a year, during the annual Coronation Festival. The concept of this was that with the coming of a new year, a god was reborn. The birth houses was both the place for Horus' rebirth as well as the place where festivals celebrating this event took place.
Together with Horus, the Egyptian king was also reborn.
The back of the building show Horus through his early years, being suckled by Isis, his mother, both as a baby (second picture) and as a young man.
