LUXOR / KARNAK
Southern Pylons of Temple of Amon

Luxor, Egypt

The 7th Pylon, right in front of the Cachette Court. This is the smallest of the southern Pylons.

Luxor, Egypt

The most impressive of the 3 southern Pylons, is the 8th. It is the most complete, and has 4 seated colossi, of which the westernmost is most complete. This Pylon belongs to the closed area of Karnak, but if you first head down to the Temple of Khonsu, then go east, you will see it all (including the 9th Pylon) before the guards discover you, and have you thrown out (in a friendly manner).

Luxor, Egypt

The 9th Pylon appears to be in the process of reconstruction, but in reality, it has not "grown" in size between my visit in 1999 and the visit of 2004. Even the crane is positioned in the same place as in 1999.
