SAQQARA / Zoser. Entrance and Hypostyle Hall  The entrance to the funerary complex of Zoser. This was part of a wall that surrounded the entire area, more than 1,600 metres long.
The entrance to the corridor is quite impressive, with large blocks of shiny stone, creating a mirror effect in the doorway. The entrance was less unique in its original appearance, when the walls continued all around the pyramid and the other buildings. Its extent was an impressive 544 times 277 metres.Inside from the outer walls, you will pass through the hypostyle hall with its 40 columns. Most pass through this quite swiftly, eager to take in the postcard angle of Zoser's pyramid. But you should note that this is the oldest surviving hypostyle hall in the world, anyone visiting the temples further south will be well acquainted with hypostyle halls.
