Around Shali



Among the structures that have survived best in Shali are the mosques. Top photo shows the main mosque of Shali, with a minaret built after patterns similar to other Egyptian oases. Third photo is of a smaller mosque, this has a square-shaped minaret.
It is very, very hard to make photos of local women, they jump away, turn around or veil themselves once seeing a foreigner waving his camera.
Last photo is of what today is the best preserved passageway built by palm logs. This is a place that remains much cooler through the hot summer.
