FAQ

How can I know my earnings and my traffic?
We use external monitoring for this. In the first stage we only use Google for ads, and you will as a contributor be permitted to watch statistics for earnings directly from them. The exact traffic for your articles will be visible with StatCounter.

I have other commitments (writing for other resources, involved in organization work etc.). Is that a problem for LookLex?

No! As long as you do not violate LookLex policy, you are free to involve yourself with whatever you wish. The only problem may be on the other side; will they allow you to contribute to LookLex?

I have written tons of information for other sources, like Wikipedia. Can I reuse that material in LookLex?

Honestly, as of yet, we don't know! Before we know for sure, the policy is no reuse of any material that is not legally your property.

I have written for Wikipedia; and/or plan to write for Wikipedia in the future. Can I combine this with writing for LookLex?

Yes, just as long as the result is not that the same article is published both places. Not that we mind, but LookLex wish not to violate international copyright.

I have another website, will I have to shut it down?

No. As long as it doesn't violate the LookLex policy.

Can I make links from my LookLex articles to my website(s)?

Yes. As long as you practice a decent linking policy for other websites as well.

Does LookLex give instructions to how articles are composed?

Yes. All accepted authors will receive detailed instructions and templates for articles. This is confidential information, and not available for viewing by outsiders.

My article looks like it could be in Wikipedia. Should I reedit it?

No, not necessarily. The aim of articles published with LookLex is to present the best possible content in the most readable manner. Should this mean in some cases that things look very similar to Wikipedia, or other sources, then that will be OK. Alterations to content and presentation should only happen when a better result is achieved.

When I write articles, can I use sources like Wikipedia, Encyclopaedia Britannica or other "competitors"?

Yes, of course. Just like they should use LookLex in their writing process, LookLex' authors can use them. Being an accepted author, you will be in a position to judge the credibility of these sources and other sources.
Using a source is not to copy text, should anyone think so.
As of yet, LookLex does not have a publishing tool for references, but it is highly recommended that you make your own private notes for such, awaiting a future solution.

Can anyone join the LookLex Project?

In principle yes. Your sex, country, religion, sexual orientation or political opinions are usually of no importance. What counts are your abilities to present a factually correct message in a readable and balanced way.
There is one limitation to countries as of yet. In order to pay you, your country must one to which we can easily pay. LookLex uses Paypal for payments, but Paypal offers easy payments for only certain countries. Check Paypal's list of the different countries and their regulations. Should there be easy ways of paying to your country, we will be more than happy to be informed. Should you have problems understanding Paypal's information page, here is a list of the countries we can pay to without problems.

Is there a minimum before payments happen?

For contributors in countries with easy payment options, the minimum threshold for payments is $30. You can set your individual threshold higher, if you like.

Payments will be in what currency?

As long as LookLex is paid in US$, authors and editors will also be paid in US$.

Who will pay for transaction costs?

Costs with payments will be taken from the author or editors revenue, at self cost. The work performed at LookLex with payments will not be deducted from payments. Explanation: If you have eared $250, and there is a transaction fee to Paypal or another provider of 3.5%, the effective payment to you will be deducted of 3.5% of that $250, resulting in $241.25. In some cases, the cost with payments involved a flat fee. In these cases we recommend you to set a higher payment threshold.
