The two dominating religious buildings of Zaghouan is a former church and a mosque with a fairly modern minaret. The church has obviously been converted to a mosque after independence, with its church tower transformed into a typical minaret. It is now desanctified and used as a private school. Across the narrow street there is the most attractive minaret of Zaghouan, belonging to the older Er-Rahma Mosque. The minaret is partly built according to Ottoman patterns, being octagonal.
